Italy – Rome’s charming drinking fountains

Wherever you walk throughout Rome, you will surely find one of Rome’s 2,500 charming drinking fountains scattered everywhere. Although dubious at first as to whether it is safe to drink, we never looked back once we checked with the locals. It looks like water has never been a problem here since 1 AD when the aqueducts were built. Even today, water flows freely through these fontanelle’s (little fountains). Refreshing and ice cold, you really have no reason to buy bottled water in Rome. So, every day, we would just leave the hotel with empty water bottles and fill them along the way whenever we chance upon on of these fountains. Because they looked so charming, I started collecting photos of them. Here are some of from my collection, from quirky and ornate to just very plain!
