Blogging 101: Introductions!
Who I am and Why I’m Here
By any stretch of the imagination, last year was a tough one for me. I felt almost overwhelmed and truth be told, quite downtrodden. So, instead of retreating into my shell which I often do, I decided to venture out instead. To get out of my comfort zone. To do things I have never done before.
Things which I thought could never achieve.
One of this was to complete a 10km run. If you knew me, you would know that I am no runner. I absolutely hate running and used to avoid it all costs in school. So, to give me a bit of a push, I signed up to run for a charity I admire, the Catherine Hamlin Foundation who operates the Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia. If teenage girls can walk for weeks to their nearest hospital, I can surely run a mere 10kms.
Then I decided to also start a blog. I didn’t really have a plan as to what I wanted out of it. At the same time, I had very little idea what blogging was all about. But I knew writing was good for me. I knew I always reflect when I write and in doing so, I realise how lucky and blessed I am.
But why not just get a diary and write a personal journal? Yes, this would have taken far less effort and time. But I knew that this would also simply be put aside after a while. And before long, it would be left in my drawer to gather dust.
However, a blog was a different proposition altogether!
It felt like a living and breathing thing . . . . something that needed me as much as I needed it.
Then my next question was what would I write about? Who would want to read anything that I write? To be honest, I didn’t think about this for long. In the end, I wrote in my About Me page, that I hoped to fill my blog with what interests me. I guess I hoped that in doing so, it will be interesting to whoever reads it as well. That was all I could come up with. And that’s all I started out with.
I have since blogged about my running, my photos, street art, planting a lemon tree and by virtue of the fact that I enjoy travelling, a lot of travel posts!
On top of that, I have also discovered a whole new world that comes with having a blog.
The community of bloggers are one friendly bunch of people! Their interests are vast and their encouragement never ending. And they are from almost every nook and cranny in the world! It has been a delight so far to engage with my ever expanding community of blogging friends. And I look forward to more.
